The aim of Futurs-ACT is to encourage the emergence of research and research-action projects designed to :
“Foresight (the discipline of exploring, anticipating and shaping the future) contributes to the development and use of collective intelligence in a structured and systematic manner, in order to anticipate developments and better prepare for changes . Prospective analysis, the assessment of major trends, new problems and their strategic implications, as well as the exploration of alternative futures by means of alternative visions of the future and scenario planning, are decisive for contribute to strategic political choices”
Scientific work to date has focused a lot on the impacts of climate change not only on a global scale, but also on a regional scale. The scope of the impacts being vast, this results in a common challenge for the societies of our territories and science. At the scale of a territory, anticipatory solutions are possible and by nature imply the questioning of interdisciplinary and participatory research.
Through the Regional Scheme for Higher Education, Research and Innovation (SRESRI), in 2018, the Nouvelle Aquitaine Region affirmed its intention to play a leading role in supporting the emergence and structuring of multidisciplinary networks research recognized at the national and international levels on strategic themes for its territory. This initiative of the Regional Council of Nouvelle-Aquitaine resulted in the creation of different Regional Research Networks (R3).
The creation of the R3 Futurs-ACT on Anticipating Climate Change in Territories in Transition stems from the ongoing work and initiatives of AcclimaTerra. Since 2011, the Regional Scientific Committee on Climate Change, which became AcclimaTerra in 2015, has synthesized scientific knowledge concerning the impact of climate change on the scale of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Futurs-ACT corresponds to the desire to expand AcclimaTerra initiatives in order to promote research on adaptation to climate change on a regional scale.
In February 2020, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regional Council approved the creation of R3 Futurs-ACT.
